Your teenager may not fit into a family where the youngest child is in their senior year of college. Furthermore, they won’t have much to relate to if they suddenly enter a family with multiple children who haven’t yet made it to first grade.

You shouldn’t feel guilty about taking these attributes into consideration. Children require plenty of involvement and attention, and someone who is too old or unhealthy may not be able to keep up with them.

Some people simply aren’t in good enough health to raise a child, and that’s fine. Just make sure not leave your child in the care of someone unfit to raise them just because they’re family or friends.

Take Personal Values into Account

This is another area that may cause complications when making your decision.

If you want your child to follow a certain faith or be brought up with certain values in place, you’re going to need to make sure your potential guardian’s views don’t conflict with yours.

At the very least, consider the guardian’s parenting style, as they may be too strict/not strict enough for your liking.

What about Money?

The thing to look for here isn’t wealth. Stability is one of the most important factors that make a good guardian.

As long as the people who could potentially take care of your child have steady jobs and manage their finances responsibly, you’ll likely be making a good decision.

However, you should also consider their hours/business travel schedule. They won’t be much of a guardian if they’re never home to be a parent.
